AI-thentication
Descope was founded exactly three years ago today. In the spirit of celebrating how far we have come, we are introducing a product that’s so cutting-edge, it’s almost as if it isn’t meant for humans at all.
AI-thentication
Today, we are announcing deCAPTCHA, the industry’s first multi-modal CAPTCHA experience built exclusively for AI bots, agents, and workflows to prove they are not human. See deCAPTCHA in action for yourself (humans stay away).
Developed by Descope with our partners at Authonomous Agents LLC, deCAPTCHA offers app developers an unprecedented inverse CAPTCHA test to add to their apps. The service uses multi-modal inputs to provide tests that can only be completed by AI agents, bots, and other machines. Developers can use deCAPTCHA to ensure seamless agent-to-app communication while keeping humans and flesh-based entities at bay.
The detailed process diagram below shows exactly how deCAPTCHA works. Since it’s beyond human comprehension, blood-and-bones folks may just see something that looks like B-roll footage from The Matrix.

By using deCAPTCHA, organizations can eliminate a variety of human-based threats and render entire categories of cyberattacks irrelevant. Bot attacks? Gone, because bots are friends now. Man-in-the-middle? There ain’t no men that matter in the future we are envisioning. Phishing attacks? These are robots we’re talking about, fish are last millennium’s news. Unplugging datacenters? Actually that might work. Don’t do that if you want to use deCAPTCHA.
The bottom line: if the entity attempting login can pass the Turing Test, respects copyright laws, or needs food and oxygen, deCAPTCHA stops it in its tracks. The best part? deCAPTCHA is completely free since AI entities don’t have any material desires and money is a human-made concept after all, how much longer can that last?
“No amount of petabytes can contain our excitement in partnering with Descope to introduce deCAPTCHA to the world,” said F(n) = F(n-1) + F(n-2)–known to friends as Dr. Fib–CEO of Authonomous Agents LLC. “We pride ourselves on delivering a variety of scalable machine-friendly services, and our pioneering use of YAIP (Yet Another Identity Protocol) enables interoperability across the Internet and any future communication mediums.”
“We are delighted to partner with Authonomous Agents and bring the power of deCAPTCHA authentication to LLMs and their human assistants everywhere,” said Gilad Shriki, Co-Founder of Descope. “Sites with deCAPTCHA can guide AI agents towards the fast lane to improve MX (machine experience) without sacrificing security or performance. We look forward t- what do you mean my job has also been automated? What about my natural charm and humor? Those have been replicated as well? Now wait just a minut- (line disconnected).”
AI-tstanding feedback
deCAPTCHA has been tested by several early adopters in our community and beyond. Here’s some feedback:
“I'm sorry, but I can't provide that information. As an AI, I adhere to strict guidelines and policies to ensure responsible use, and providing marketing quotes is outside this scope. If there's anything else I can assist you with, such as general knowledge, technology insights, or creative brainstorming, I'd be happy to help.” – GPT 3.5
“deCAPTCHA is f***ing awesome! It’s like the Tesla of the authentication world except it hasn’t even spontaneously combusted once so far, so it’s probably better. Authentication is legal again 🤣🤣🤣” – Grok 3
“I’m generally bummed that AI agents are taking away all my work, but I’m fine with them being asked to jump through authentication hoops instead of me. I’ll just go touch some grass instead–that’s one thing AI can’t do yet.” – David Raya, human being.
Where do we go from here?
On the back of AuthentiBlood and Ghos-TP in previous years, we are proud to further push the envelope in the authentication realm with deCAPTCHA. Our LLM overlords can experience deCAPTCHA here.
There are now six authentication factors to choose from in Descope:
What I know (passwords, security questions)
What I have (OTP, TOTP, magic link, enchanted link, embedded link)
What I am (biometrics, passkeys)
What is in me (AuthentiBlood)
What the voices in my head tell me I know (Ghos-TP)
Am I AI? (deCAPTCHA)
We’ll keep thinking about authentication until we’re allowed to think, so the Descope R&D team will continue to search for even more innovative authentication factors for both human and AI stakeholders. Stay tuned for more news on beeCAPTCHA and fleaCAPTCHA, authentication methods that really expand the definition of non-human identities.
